Three individuals that had the biggest impact on Jayne as a leader are her daughter, her friend/colleague, and her relationship with God. Her daughter assists her with being honest and encouraging about her ideas. Her friend and colleague is supportive, encouraging, and understanding of Jayne. And her relationship with god is another important aspect to her, which helps her decide what she is supposed to do, as well as aids her with encouragement. She says a lot of the time she goes with the flow and sees where life takes her. It’s interesting to note all these individuals that have impacted her as a leadership give her encouragement. When asked about the most important decision a leader can make, Jayne stated, to just step out and do it. It can be scary, to put yourself out there, but if you want to make a difference you need to do just it. The third question that was asked was in regards to what’s most important about her organization- the mission, core values, or vision. Her response was her core values because it makes up her mission and vision. Her core values are honesty, respect, presence, trust, faith, and integrity. One employee is an equine specialist, while the other employee, specializes with assisting the clients with poems, arts, and the reflective part of this therapeutic experience. When asked about what Jayne likes best about managing her two formal employees she said “the amazing insight and comfort of sharing”. When asked about what she liked least she said that these individuals are her friends, so it can be difficult wording things, when discussing a difficult subject. I also asked Jayne what she liked best and least with working with her horses. The main thing that she liked best, when she was working with her horses was the environment and the real energy that these horses give off. When asked what, she liked least, she responded with the funding to keep this organization going, horses are not cheap (personal communication, November 8, 2016). Important traits that Jayne looks at when she’s hiring a new employee are honesty, trustworthiness, flexibility, and creativity. She wants her employees to be able to think outside of the box, as they will be working with horses that are assisting their clients to do so. Another important test that her future employees must past is the horse test, she wants to make sure that her future employee and her horses are a good fit for each other.
