Alonso Rodriguez My heart is not here, my hearts in the highlands chasing the deers Rokni Haerizadeh 2013 Perez art museum Rokni Haerizadeh piece titled my heart is not here, my hearts in the highlands chasing the deers represents a British wedding in process and somehow the image of the groom, bride and its guest as somehow corrupted. I believe that the corrupted image is an idea of protest or corruption in an important ceremony such as a wedding.
The work is very colorful containing primary colors such as the red suit the groom wears, the yellow light shining on the officiant of the wedding and containing a little bit of blue on the windows. Not only is the artwork very colorful but it has many geometric and organic shapes such as the three pigs drawn on the three guest of the wedding and the image of a type of monster where the rug should be, but the most intriguing image is the one of the groom where

In this piece, the light source is seen as the light from the window shines down on the officiant of the wedding whose robe covers his whole appearance. Rokni Haerizadeh use of the value scale in the groom is a very powerful image which does pop out by creating a dark black dripping throughout the rug and getting less darker. The shades Rokni Haerizadeh used on the bride creates a very intriguing and exploding image. Although you cannot see the bride’s face, you can see the bride’s wedding dress which is covered in a tint of white and red which creates a pink color. The pink color with a little shade of black and red is blended in the dress. The color and shapes drawn in this painting create an intensity among the whole scenario which can only be described as powerful and

The woman in this painting is also wearing a cloth that may be silk, also wearing a gold ring on her finger. From this, I concluded that she is the bride and the man on her left is her husband. He is sitting partially naked, a cloth covering his genitals, while he holds a staff like object. The muscles in his body are well defined, showing off the Roman's art style of portraying the male body with positive qualities, also known as idealization. The staff he holds may show that he holds the power in the relationship since Rome was a male dominated society.…

Historically, we have witnessed some fantastic artworks which revolved around the beauty of flowers such as Vincent Van Gogh's "Irises" and Jan Davidz de Heem's "Vase of Flowers". Another work of art that based on flowers is Biser Lapev's "W19" that has compelled me to review it. The subject within this oil painting is a mug, that is placed in the centre, occupied by sunflowers and daisies. Attention is drawn directly to the subject by the usage of contrasting colours.…

Mandee Stock’s painting, Ellie, depicts a young Day of the Dead girl. Stock uses acrylic paint on a canvas that is approximately 20x20” as her medium. At first glance, the painting may just appear to be nothing more than another Day of the Dead painting; however, upon closer examination the details turn it into something entirely different. Stock uses techniques such as: implied depth, color, and focal point to emphasize the innocence being lost in the young girl. Without these elements, Stock’s concept that innocence does not last forever, would be lost to the viewer.…

Object #2 is a ‘painting’, in the sense that it is a framed canvas hanging on the wall. But it is not quite a ‘painting’ as most people are used to experience it. Artist doesn’t use any components normally recognizable in painting: color, brushstroke, perspective. There is no image! Though we can argue that artist uses some composition by placing text almost in the middle of canvas (page?).…

The Laundress painting appears to be an oil painting depicting the usage, of a laundry room. Interestingly enough most of the people (including the laundress), have their backs turned, stopping the viewers from seeing their faces. The artist choice to complement this by making each character with very soft forms, and blurred faces. You immediately get the sense that the area is very foggy. Most of the paint the artist chose to use gives off a Taupe color which puts most of the people in the background slowly fading away.…
