SALP: Domestic Abuse Program Evaluation Christopher M. Nima San Jose State University Social workers have long confronted the multiple issues that coexist within a household filled with domestic violence. The problems that can fester in a household filled with domestic violence range from child endangerment to alcohol abuse. Unfortunately, services for the victims of these types of family violence have been splintered, forcing single women or families to go to multiple agencies for support. This issue can become ever more complicated when the victims come from immigrant households who are less familiar with American culture, laws, and services available to them. The focus of the program evaluation is to propose human…

“In Afghanistan, where society is ruled almost entirely by men, the birth of a son is cause for celebration and the arrival of a daughter is often mourned as a failure.” In the world Afghan females live in, their gender has no real rights or freedom. Women in that society are taught growing up to stay in their place, which is completely and utterly inferior to their male counterparts, to keep their bodies covered completely as it may have them perceived as an improper woman or to be a harlot, to aspire to marriage etc. When it comes to marriage, the majority of them are still forced, honor killings are not unusual and any involvement of the justice system in rape cases usually means that only the victim goes to jail and is charged with adultery or having premarital sex.…

In Iraq, the lifestyle there is much worse for Muslim women than it is in the United States. It is common for women to be a victim of abuse, killed, or even raped. In the United States women are given more benefits than Muslim women do in Iraq, which doesn’t seem fair, because women should be treated just as equally as men are treated and no gender is superior than other gender. Iraq’s major religion is Islam, their religion compares and contrasts to Christianity, however the life Muslim women live now reflects from Islam’s traditions from the freedom to confinement.…

Research about the factors that maintain situations of abuse has generally focused separately on the coping strategies of women, barriers to leaving the relationship and the perpetrators' means of abuse. Using grounded theory we generated four themes: Commonalities and contradictions in the experience of abuse; living with abuse; the response of systems reinforced or challenged the abuse and dealing with abuse beyond the relationship. These findings illustrate how situations of domestic abuse can be prolonged by limited options available to victims for support and protection, and a lack of active public acknowledgement that domestic abuse is unacceptable. Asylum Argument Essay

For many reasons, a female asylum applicant might not have access to identity documents or other documentary proof of her claim. For example, women in the applicant’s country may not be afforded full rights of citizenship, or an applicant’s means of support may have been dependent upon a male relative who had control over any documents pertaining to the female applicant. It may be unreasonable to expect a woman fleeing from a refugee producing country to have documentation of sexual abuse because of the strong cultural stigma attached to rape; “women survivors of sexual violence often are reluctant to seek medical assistance or to file police reports because they do not want it known that they were raped.” Global Report on Women’s Human Rights, August 1996. Cultural differences and norms governing women’s behavior, as well as the effects of trauma, may present special difficulties in evaluating credibility of female asylum applicants.…
