Healthwise, Rogers Park is one of the communities among others as Humboldt Park or Communities in the South area of Chicago that present challenges. During 2004-2008, 37% of children between 0 to 11 years live in poverty, 30% of the population is enrolled on Medicare. Rogers Park has mental health shortages for low-income people. 19% of the population experience food insecurity. It has 2,2 liquor stores per 100,000 residents. All of these factors contribute to high death rates from the following causes: coronary heart disease, cancer (all sites), diabetes, lung cancer, and stroke. Furthermore, 60 of 100,000 people present HIV infection, and the incidence of gonorrhea is 189.1 per 100,000 people.
