Roger was born on 9th august,1981 in Basel, Switzerland. He was a born prodigy and started showing his interest in sports from a very young age. He was naturally talented and very hardworking, as a result of which, he became the national junior champion in Switzerland, at an age of 14. In 1998, shortly before he turned pro, Federer won the junior Wimbledon title and announced his grand entry into the international tennis circuit. As an example of which he established the "Roger Federer Foundation" in 2003, which helps provide grants to poor countries that have child mortality rates of more than 15 percent, for education and sports-related projects. In 2005, he auctioned his racquet from his US Open championship to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. At the 2005 Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells, Federer arranged an exhibition involving several top players from the ATP and WTA tour called Rally for Relief.
