In today’s world we are faced with many problems that end in people losing their life, things such as hunger, poverty and racism. Racism is “the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.” Racism has been around as long as humans have. One race always wants to be superior to the other. Martin Luther King Jr. along with many others have protested and fought against racists acts against African Americans. A man by name of Rodney King was being pursued by police officers. After officers cornered the car they told king and the two other passengers to exit the car. After eventually doing so, King gave the officers a hard time while they were trying to detain him. This ended up with him being beaten aggressively by four white cops. A man by the name of George Holliday had videotaped the altercation. With this video being seen by the public, the African Americans were outraged. When all charges were dropped on the officers involved, chaos had broken out, especially in Los Angeles. These riots will forever be known as the “Rodney King Riots.” Whites were getting brutally beat up for no reason but for the simple fact of retaliation. On the first day of the riots a truck driver by the name of Reginald Denny was dragged from his truck and beaten by four African Americans. Close to 2,000 people were injured during the riots. “Justice” was never served and in some eyes of many black and white, justice was never going to be served. Mike Brown was shot by a Ferguson police officer late this summer. Protests have been going on since the incident, both peaceful and violent. The problem is the media has mainly portrayed the violent protest which makes the rest of the country look negatively at Ferguson. With the recent verdict of the officer being let go, Ferguson went into an uproar. Riots broke out that night, with buildings being burnt down and many stores being looted. Cops were stationed all throughout Ferguson and the National Guard was sent in to help with the situation. The night of the verdict, there’s a video of Mike Browns step father telling the protesters to “burn this bitch down,” and violent riots followed shortly
