King was released without charges, and on March 15,in front of a Grand Jury, Sgt Stacey Koon and the officers were indicted on charges of Assault with a deadly weapon, and excessive force and Koon, while not taking a part in the beating he was the commanding officer during the time of the beating was charged with aiding and abetting.

They were pillaging and looting and riots on a mass scale in LA. The violence first started at the intersection of Florence and Normandie, three African American males beat a motorist nearly to death, this happened to many motorists throughout the span of the riots, some Korean store owners took to defending the stores with rifles. The police were kinda late to respond to the start of the riots, so if they were earlier to respond maybe they would’ve contained it faster and minimize the damage and destruction. The national guard were called in at the behest of the Mayor and Governor
