It is clear that Shakespeare used very effective language to show state of Roderigo’s mind and his overreaction. To start off with, Shakespeare uses an extended metaphor about medicine. Within this metaphor, he personifies death. Through this personification, Shakespeare makes death like a doctor that can take away Roderigo’s pain. Shakespeare uses irony through this metaphor because usually a doctor is meant to save a life but instead is taking the life of the patient.
