Roderick Usher's Depression

Philip Winthrop receives word from an old friend, Roderick Usher, whom he has not seen since childhood, that he has fallen into a deep depression and requests his company to help get him through his times of trouble. Once there, Philip finds that his friend’s twin sister, Lady Madeline, is gravely ill, which has caused Roderick’s depression since it will leave him as the sole member of the Usher family. It will also be the end of his lineage, as the Usher’s have a long history of intermarriage. The sister succumbs to her illness the very day Philip arrives. Roderick decides that instead of burying her, he wants to place her in a tomb, beforehand. She remains there for several days. Meanwhile, Roderick starts to become more and more
