Unfortunately “Serling’s struggles with advertisers and the networks came in 1956 when he planned a script based on the kidnapping and lynching of Emmett Till after Till had whistled at a white women in Mississippi the year before”(5). Serling was getting tired of being told that his stories were not ok to be aired on the television, and he felt that people had the right to know what went on in the world. This allowed him to get the idea to do more science fiction which allowed him to share his stories, but the message weren't the most obvious when you tired to figure out the moral or idea that was trying to be told. Rod Serling wrote science fiction and had his own tv show because he wanted to be able to get out a message that deserved to be shared with the world, but it also was in a more hidden way which forced his followers to think harder as to how this method would translate to both his books and tv shows. With “using science fiction to address his anger and confusion with real world events, Serling created moral and cautionary tales in half-hour installments”(7). With him finding a way to show the message using science fiction, the program stopped advertisers from becoming so enraged and frustrated with all the things they had to take out. Since his show became such a hot, he started making large amounts of his shows
