Why should Rocky Mountain School have more electives? Here are the reasons why, benefits of more electives, and examples.
Students will benefit through this because they will have a higher chance at a job, most employers prefer or look for students that have a much broader education or much diverse educational background. An additional benefit for students will be, it might be the deciding factor for their career in life, which can be a huge deciding factor later on in life. One more reason why students could benefit from electives that they may learn some life skills. Examples of life skills are sewing or cooking. An example of students being distracted is that they joined an elective just to chat with their friends which normally happens in most cases or they don’t care enough to get their work done and play on their phones. One more example of why some electives are not necessary in life, Spanish for example is it important if I learn another language; not really it only helps if I plan on going to foreign areas that speak Spanish. One of the effects of World War I was that many high school students dropped out in order to work while their fathers were away at war. With the Great Depression, this problem only increased. Schools across the country reacted to this by making lower grades more rigorous, since many students would only obtain an eighth grade education. This junior high system remained in place until around the 1960s, when the Carnegie foundation funded a study that brought about several changes, eventually evolving into the middle school concept. Focusing on a student centered environment, the middle school concept rose to popularity in the 1980s through the early twenty-first century and still remains popular in various forms today.…

Not getting enough class time to ask questions? Well that is why I think high school classes are too big. We never get enough one on one with the teachers, so if you're not understanding the lesson then you have to try and figure it out yourself. We don’t get enough one on one because everyone else is playing around and not paying attention, so that leads to no one learning anything. No one learns anything because no one is paying much attention, because everyone is talking and not even acknowledging the teacher and that she is trying to teach a lesson.…

Students throughout the United States are reporting that they are less prepared for college because high school curriculums did not formulate a knowledgeable environment. However, most of those students did not know what they wanted to do for a career once they graduated high school. According to Dr. Fritz Grupe, eighty percent of college bound students are undecided on what they want to major in in college (Ronan 2). This is proof that students’ minds were not previously engaged in developing an idea of what field they wanted to venture into. Students will be more prepared for college if they have a better prior understanding of the material they may delve into in their college curriculum, focus more on understanding than memorization, and…

Having more classes to teach means less of a boring day for the teachers who have to teach the same material five times a day. It is true that this may be a teacher 's job, but if a simple fix could make their jobs more enjoyable, then there is no reason not to make that change. Instead, they could teach multiple different classes. Then each class can be approached with the same amount of enthusiasm as a teacher has during first period. This would ultimately improve the learning environment of students and work environment of teachers.…

In those electives comes study breaks, performing arts, and physical education. Instead of taking fun classes, I believe our school system should consider making it a requirement to take classes on important stuff like how to take the ACT. The ACT test is a must when applying to college. “According to the latest results of the organization’s standardized college entrance test, only 1 in 4 students qualify as prepared for college in all four subject areas: English, reading, math and science” (webley). So, instead of a PE class we can study, learn, and practice for the ACT.…
