Ruling over a child when they want to play is telling them to go away and play by themselves. Which can also lead to ignoring them. In “RHW,” Paul’s mother doesn’t pay very much attention towards him. Since she was constantly stressed, she tended to ignore Paul more than she should have. It caused him to become almost depressed because all he wanted to do was please his mother. Just watching his mother hurt is making him hurt. Another way parents hurt their children is by the words they use. When Paul’s mother told him everything about their financial issues, it made Paul want to help even more. She said the only reason they don’t have money is because his father is unlucky, so now Paul wanted to prove to his mom that he was lucky. He wanted to show her that he could win lots of money by determining the winner of the big horse race and betting on it. Sometimes parents’ don’t know how to use the right words when they are talking to their kids. Words could affect the child very much so if they are not child appropriate
