What are a group of foxes called? What are some fox habitats? Foxes are enthralling creatures, Loved by many, and have a lot of fascinating facts about them. They are most commonly found throughout the Northern Hemisphere (United States), and are a part of the dog family. Foxes are generally friendly towards humans, and therefore, are not always a threat. Foxes are often shy, and can even be found in other religions and culture, such as Japanese culture, in which foxes are spirits (Example: Nine Tailed Fox, or Shanhaijing). There are many different types of foxes. 37 Species of Fox, exactly, but only 12 belong to genus “vulpes”, or “true foxes”. Foxes have different names, too. Male foxes are called “tods” or “dog foxes”. Female foxes are called “vixens”. Baby foxes are considered “pups” “kits”, or “cubs”. A group of foxes is called a “skulk” or a “leash”.
