Friedman talks about how the choices the two leaders make could lead to an accidental war. The egos of the two leaders can have a negative impact on this situation. Friedman states in his article that “while words matter, they aren’t all that matter”.(Friedman pp.2)The actions of the two governments could be a good indicator of what could happen next. He gives a better view point on this situation than Harden does. Harden mainly focuses mainly on North Koreas past and the Kim family decisions. Harden talks more about the Korean War and the consequences of that than he does about the situation that is going on now. He believes that “the United States has largely forgotten the lessons of the Korean War,”.(Harden pp.2) He uses the Korean War to explain why Kim will not use his nuclear weapons. He has learned from his Father and his Grandfathers mistake. Harden believes that if North Korea does go to war with America he will have no backing from other countries. Harden states that “America should be prepared for an extended cold war with North Korea.” (Harden pp. …show more content…
Friedman gives multiple indicators as to why America and North Korea have not gone to war. An example he gives is that the U.S would be evacuating America civilians out of South Korea. (Friedman pp.3) He also states that America would be mobilizing troops. Which neither of these indicators has happened. Friedman also gives indicators that North Korea is not preparing for war either. An example of this is that Korea has not mobilized their troops or Navy either. He states that “ in order to keep accidental war from happening Korean soldiers are to report up the chain of command”.(Friedman pp. 4) He believes that if Trump keeps threatening North Korea like he has he will prevent an “accidental war”. Harden also gives reasons why America and North Korea have not gone to war. One of these reasons is the Kim family past experience with conflict. Harden believes that Kim “knows better” than to start war with America.(Harden pp.
