Think of music, think of how it makes people feel when they listen to it. Sounds are vibrations that allow for humans to hear. The sounds people hear can be disliked, like the sound of nails on a chalk broad, or enjoyed, like the sounds of rain falling. Music is just like sound but with words and a specific type of rhythm. In the same way as sound certain people can hate classical music but can like rock music. Classical and rock music are classified into different types of genres. Genres are ways people deceiver one type of rhythm and tone from another. Although classical and rock music are seen to have many differences between them, yet seem to share one similarity in what meaning they really express. Picture a fancy theater somewhere in the city. People are dressed up in nice suits and dresses standing in a lobby with red velvet flooring with white and gold decorated walls. The dress code for such a concert will never be as formal as is for a classical concert. Patrons are encouraged to wear whatever they like; for the most part, casual dress is acceptable, but more formal dress may be preferred by some. Arrival time is not as prompt for these types of concerts, but if you are to arrive late, it is considered very rude to push your way to the front, as it is disrespectful towards people who arrived early to stand where they are. Considering the fact that there is not usually a seating arrangement, people are allowed to stand where they like. With openness such as this there comes many disadvantages; crowds may get too rowdy towards the front, shorter people may have their view blocked by someone taller who decided to stand in front of them, people who have had too much to drink, may all cause problems for other people attending the concert.…

On the surface, one might not think that the great Italian opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi and the acclaimed indie group Dinosaur Jr. have much in common. One concert, for instance, took place in an intimate performing arts center to an attentive and quietly reverent audience while the other in a loud, rough-and-tumble rock venue to a lively and informal audience. Indeed, there may appear to be no similarities between the effortlessly skilled classical stylings of the UNT College of Music and the deliberately ramshackle indie sound of Dinosaur Jr. However, with these two concerts, we see Christopher Small’s concept of “musicking” in full effect and, critically, two different forms of the same musical elitism.…

Through the combination of this documentary, “The Great White Way” and “Showtime, I was exposed to information that made me question my definition of a musical. I was also forced to explore how the musical developed from its origins into what we know as the modern musical of today. My first discovery was that the musical is a distinctly “Americanized” art form and as such it is became a key part of American cultural movements that would follow the Revolutionary war. After gaining our independence as a country we moved to reject a great deal of our European culture and were then forced to create a new distinct American culture with its own art forms and practices. In order to determine how this process occurred specifically within live performance…

During the classical music concert the listeners keep their emotions and feeling inside and show those only after ending of the performance by applauding to the musicians. There is another interesting difference with applause. People show their empathy to artists at any time during or after song they perform in the case of the House band on the stage. Classical music is more harmonic while rock music is more rhythmic. Rhythmic music makes listeners more passionate, raising adrenaline, while harmonic music makes listeners more contemplative.
