The fuel that ignites a change process, in one suffering with a substance use disorder, begin's purely with the client's motivation to make the change. I've observed and worked with the difference between those who successfully make the necessary changes, and those who do not, it clearly starts with motivation. I perceive motivation to be vital to recovery. Once sufficiently motivated, people can and do change.

In order to build meaningful relationships in sobriety they will need to learn better of ways of dealing with other people. As the counselor, by running groups I believe whole heartedly this where a lot of realization, connections and growth comes to life. The fellowship or brotherhood that can be formed is indefinable. Once one has managed to make a few positive changes in the right direction and the results are visible, it boosts the overall morale.
