Robonauts Leader Reflection

Being a leader of the Robonauts requires a lot of an individual. It requires the leader to adapt, manage, lead, and coach/mentor. By applying these four fundamentals of leadership, I, as a leader of the Robonauts, will be able to take the team to the next level. Adaption in a leader requires the leader to be an effective listener. Trying to listen to the thoughts and ideas of others. In addition, the leader needs to be in some way relatable to them. When rookies, who are usually shy and timid, are able to relate to their leader. They are more likely to express their views on a subject. Being a leader asks me to be able to work under stressful situations and be able to handle conflicts within the group when they arise. Next, a leader must manage …show more content…
The next fundamental of leadership I plan to explore, during the upcoming Robonauts season, is the actual lead or leading. In order to lead appropriately, I must be a strategic thinker. In other words, a leader who is able to generate persuasive visions or values. Also, a leader who is able to balance the needs of a specific group with the broader organization or idea. For example, during the Robonauts season, I will create visions for the robot and values for the team and community. Additionally, I plan to balance focus on not just the robot, but also the values we deem as important in relation to the team and FIRST. Lastly, the final basic step of leadership, I plan to delve into is coaching/mentoring. While, yes we do have great NASA mentors, some students would prefer and are comfortable learning from another experienced student. In order to mentor effectively, a leader must first know what they are talking about. They next need to address the needs of the individual and what their question is. Then, effective mentoring that develops an individual, is achieved through direct coaching and giving constructive and timely feedback on the task at
