Robin Roberts was born on November 23, 1960, in Tuskegee, Alabama. She grew up in Pass Christian, Mississippi. She was the youngest out of all four of the kids in her family. She is the daughter to a airmen pilot. As a student in the classroom she was very successful/ She graduated high school as the salutatorian of her class. She ended up going to college and getting a journalism scholarship to Southern Louisiana University. With that scholarship finished college and graduated Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in communications. She contacted this disease when a complication happened when she was getting chemotherapy for breast cancer in 2007. The next month she had a bone marrow transplant to help with this horrific disease that she had contracted. The day that she announced about the disease on the radio station the Organization that dealt with her cases experienced an 1,800 percent spike in the amount of donors. None of those people that registered would be the one that Robin would have to end up depending on. Out of all of the people the one that the doctors found as a perfect match was her sister Sally-Ann. One of the many ways she ended up getting past her obstacles was she was faithful that she would find a donor and everything was gonna be okay. One of the key things that she said in her speech was “When fear knocks, Faith opens the door”. To me she is saying that when you may be scared and overwhelmed with fear the one and only way you can get past is by having faith in yourself and others. Another thing that she said that I thought was key was “I didn’t find strength on my own”. That shows that she is saying that she didn’t get through her illness by herself but she had the help of many others. Then she went on to say that the strength came from the kind and nice words that she received from others about how they hope she feels better or you will get through
