Greasy Lake and Setting Oftentimes, the setting is a particularly crucial part of a story. It could be symbolic for an idea, or it could contribute to the change of a characters personality. Furthermore, setting does not only refer to the location or time period of the story; it could also pertain to “climate and even the social, psychological, or spiritual state of the participants” (Literature, Glossary of Literary Terms, G26). Regarding the setting, though the time period is never outright mentioned it can be inferred form references used by the narrator that it is around the 1960’s when the story takes place, but this is is not the sole…

John Donne’s Good Morrow, as well as Margaret Cavendish’s book, The Blazing World, both, discuss nature through battles between reality and the wild perceptions of humans. The Good Morrow demonstrates the human perception of the world through the imaginary telescope of love and sex. The Blazing World demonstrates the struggle to revolutionize scientific methods with particularly the invention of a physical telescope, against remediate views of the time, criticizing the invention. Love and technology thus, are two major themes of the works presented, deriving the key word that will be worth discussion, perception.…

Scott Fitzgerald, Gogol Ganguli from the The Namesake written by Jhumpa Lahiri, both reinvents oneself by changing their names.
