It was raining, and that meant the smell of pure soil lingered in the air round me. My grey shirt and jeans felt heavy from the water they had soaked up. I was uncontrollably shivering as I made my way across the street. My hair was flying in several directions because of the wind. I hate this. I saw the grey building on the ascending hill and made my way up. I'm pretty sure the bell already rang.

I reached the heavy, gloomy doors and with all my strength I tried to pry them open. The was no buge. Not even a single movement. I let out a frustrated sigh and cursed under my breath. I lifted my hand and pressed the dreadful doorbell signalling my arrival. A lovely feminine voice came through the speakers.

“Yes, how may I help you?” the woman asked

I'm kinda late” I responded with a bit of uncertainty in my voice

“Oh my goodness, Grace where on earth were you? Did you oversleep again? Do I have to call your parents?” She interrogated

“Ms.Robeson don't call my parents please. Just let me in and I'll explain everything.”

A quiet buzz signaled the door unlocking and I let myself in with a single tug. Now to deal with Ms.Robeson. Don't get me wrong she's amazing, really nice, and she gives you food that pretty tasty, but is worried about everything and everyone. That could get exhausting after a while. I rounded the corner to the main office and entered the fairly large room. A very petite women came to my view, her face filled with worry.

“Oh dear Grace look at you're going to catch a cold in those clothes” Ms.Robinson rushed over to me. I gave her a small smile and reassured her I was okay.

“Everything is alright okay I just was up all night and I had to take my little brother to school. I'll try not to be late anymore just don't call my parents it might worry them.”

She stared at me for a while, digesting my words. She sighed and gave me a note for first

Inspector Muggins leant back in his chair and took a long drag on his cigar, with the contented air of a man who is paid to do nothing but sit in an office and drink whisky and puff on cigars. Which is exactly what Muggins did. The town Muggins lived in was a quiet one, so there was rarely any need for him to get off his considerable bottom and lumber off to some crime scene. So it came as something of a surprise when the phone rang. So much of a surprise, in fact, that Muggins fell off his chair.…

Eyes are the Window to the Soul Darkness flooded the sky, as the night air started to come in, over the dark gloomy campsite. The leaves and branches in the deathly, ancient, gnarly trees whispered tales of past campers. As the Jarvis family settled into their campsite, Noah noticed a mysterious mist spiralling across the fields towards the worn out gates of the cemetery. Dad called out to Noah’s older brother and cousin to help assist in setting up the camping gear. The forest guide had told them before-hand that the only clearing was near the gate of the cemetery if they wanted to camp.…

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK… The pounding on the old, oak door disrupted Alice’s cleaning. Alice scurried to the door, her dull yellow dress flowing with every step she took as she fumbled to wipe her hands on a rag leaving a subtle hint of crimson under her nails. She set down the rag on the small table by the door and then reached out her milky white hand, grasping the metal handle. Light slowly flowed in, a loud creak coming from the hinges holding the weighted wood. A smile was forced onto her face as her olive eyes studied the figure at the door.…

Title: Bullicide Type: Short story As I scurried down the hallway, I was daunted, terrified, petrified. The danger was undoubtedly and irrevocably real. Despite my eyes facing downcast, the cheerleaders cackles rang in my ears-snickering at my social status, guffawing at my lack of friends, chortling at the fact that I was failing classes and had no hope in the future for anything. Encompassing me, students whispered and watched as I passed by and if I had spun to face the other way I would have seen the restless entourage of observers in my wake.…

Maybe it was the box in front of the house with large red, runny, letters proclaiming me to enter. Or maybe it was the blue door, that looked far too new to be attached to this house. It could have been the crumbling brick that made up the entirety of the house, or the crumbling bricks that sat outside the small building. It called to me, pushed me to it’s bidding, begging me to enter. It probably hadn’t been the best idea to enter, in hindsight, I could have made a much better decision.…

The flickering flashes of neon lights were devoured by the gloominess of the decaying hallway, drowning under the foul odour of the mouldy air. Shards of fragmented glass rested on the corner of the polished marble floor. Silence hung in the air of the abandoned corridors, but it did not take long for the door handle to punch the brick wall and break the moment of silence, as thin cracks ran creepily across the surface of its face. But she didn’t care.…
