Robert Schopf's Case Study

I am contacting you regarding the Walled Lake Central Women’s varsity basketball team. Three years ago when Robert Schopf was put in the position as head coach, the program decided to give him another chance even though he was terminated in the past. His inappropriate actions have not only appeared during the regular season, but also during summer league. During one summer he made unnecessary comments, some exemplifying prejudice, towards his players. For example, he told Peyton Brikho to stop her “Chaldean attitude” before putting her into the game. During the 2014-2015 season, record…. The varsity team issued many complaints about Schopf but they kept it within the team and did not put any initiative towards it. As the years went on, less …show more content…
This happened because no one felt comfortable with him, and when confronted with their concerns, they would just be in a worst position than they were before. During the 2015-2016 season, where their record was 2-18, (where one of the wins was because of forfeit from the opposing team.) one player was ejected from the team by Schopf based off non commitment, even though she had a death in her family and missed two days of practice because of her loss. Many parents and players believe that this action by him was because of her African American race. Another conflict arose between him and another African American player. Through the majority of practices during the 2015-2016 season, Schopf would continuously pick on her which was obvious to everyone in the gym. During the Waterford Mott away game last season she was not put in the game at all during the first …show more content…
This situation has happened to numerous players of the team. For example, in the beginning of the year, Ashley Shaow was elected captain for her leadership and capabilities. She got lots of playing time at first, but it started to decrease as the season progressed to where she was only getting a few minutes a game to prove herself to him. Players were very confused about his decision to not put her in not only because she was captain but also because she continued to work hard in practice everyday. In a particular game versing Salem high school, Ashley was put into the game when he needed her most, during the fourth quarter. Once she scored seven out of the ten points for that quarter, he began to start her in his starting lineup for the remainder of the season. Another example is Jordan Bross, where her playing time was excessive during the first half the season, but then decreased as well for the remainder of it with no explanation why. When the varsity team was playing their game against Livonia Franklin, the team was trailing by one point towards the end of the fourth quarter. Because of this, Schopf decided to put Jordan into the game because they were in desperate need of a “shooter.” Jordan ended up making a game winning three pointer within the last five seconds of the game and resulted in the team’s first and only victory of the season. As the athletic director, I have decided to utilize the “SLEEPE” Principle in order to review the situation to ensure the best decision is made in regards to the University of Kentucky. Coach Carter, this movie changed my life and opened my eyes into the macro perspective in how the film displays positive and negative changes in social and technological changes. I will convey how Coach Carter transformed many uneducated, poor, unpassionate high school basketball losers into not only winners, but passionate educated men of society. Coach Carter takes over as head basketball coach at Richmond high school, where he graduated and was the all-time leading scorer and assist maker. The players of Richmond are unpassionate, lazy, vulgar and undisciplined. The Richmond Oilers just finished the season with the worst record in school history and decisions to possible shut down the program were in question.…
