Robert Schumann was a German composer and music critic. He could be considered one of the most influential composer of the Romantic era. Schumann works as a writer and a critic played a great role in the works of some of the leading composers of his days and even today. The most unique detail in Robert Schumann's work is its relations to literature. Though several of his compositions portray scenes from poems, characters, plays and novels there are some that are about place and people that were important to him or had an impact on his life. His songs are considered some of the greatest music to ever be written. Not only did Schumann write songs, but he also wrote all of the following: symphonies, concertos, and chamber music. He experienced bipolar like mood swings and suffered from depression which shows in a lot of his music. Literature and music surrounded Roberts Schumann’s childhood. Born on June the 8th 1810, he was the fifth child of his parents. Schumann’s father was a publisher, bookseller and novelist.
