Service and Leadership
Service and leadership! Even though they are two different things they both do correlate well with each other. For example, most of the time when you lead you are serving others whether it be big or small you still are offering some type of service. Throughout my life I have faced many challenges and have overcome so many different barriers with the tools I’ve learned growing up. One of them was how to serve and lead, not only serve myself but to serve others. The most important thing in becoming a full person in life is serving others and leading! This comes natural for me though, I always looked for ways to help others before myself. Some may say that it’s a bad thing because I always aim to please others but, I look

During this time not only did I help serve the community but I also showed people on my team that is was cool to help out because after people heard I signed up, a lot more kids on the team joined me. This is a perfect example of servant leadership because according to Robert K. Greenleaf a servant leader “focuses primarily on the growth and well-being of people and the communities to which they belong.” Which relates perfectly into what I was doing. It was really a serial feeling for me because when you see all those people faces and see how much they are struggling it makes you want to do more but, at the same time it makes u feel good that you got to …show more content…
We were down by 16 points at half and I had just got a message saying that my friend had been killed, so I was very emotional. At first I wanted to tank it but then I saw how defeated and down my team was and I realized that it was bigger than me and my problems. A lot of my teammates had way more going on than I did and I knew my friend wouldn’t want me to fall into a slump. I gave a speech to my teammates and told them no matter what happens we got each other and that we can do anything if we believe. My teammates rallied behind me after I said that and we went out there and really played like a completely different team. We came back and beat them 38-32 and it was the best feeling in the world. I stop worrying about me and just focused on making my teammates better and bring them up, I let go of my problems and did what I could to lead my

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

Service to others has played a big part of my high school career. I am an instructor for a middle school indoor winterline group and I am specifically in charge of the colorguard members and their work. When I am with the group, I help instruct and show these young students the correct way to do dance, colorguard, and performance. By teaching them, it has lead me to develop my own skills, like communication, leadership, and my own dance and colorguard skills. Also, another reason service is important in my life is because of the relationships I gain.…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

When people say the words “America is the land of the free and the home of the brave,” people think of opportunity but for themselves. When I hear these words, I think of the opportunity I have to give back to America. Sure America is the land of opportunity to get all what we want but we should never always just take, eventually we should give back to our nation. This is because it is our responsibility to keep this nation great for our future generations.…

So here I was with our basketball team; It was the second round of the playoffs and our team had a tough matchup against Antioch, they are just as good if not better than us. And the game had just started; myself, “the captain”, Josh, Murry, Blake, Andrew, “the starters” “we were going to win this game” is what we all said throughout the whole day before the game. And our team, Hermitage, we were not the best basketball team in the league by any means. In fact, we had the second worst record (Win to loss record) that season we only made it into the playoffs because our league needed the top eight teams in the league and we were the ninth but one team did not have enough players to play in the game. So we got in…

I have had the privilege to partake in several leadership experiences, but there are a few which stand out from the rest. One has been my participation as a worship leader through my church. I am part of a team that leads the congregation in song. As a lover of music, and a pious christian, this is a particularly salient aspect of my life. By leading through song, I have the opportunity to share the gift of music, worship God in a unique way, and be a leader of people through my strongly entrenched beliefs, which is exceedingly important to me.…
