Graves attended a preparatory school early on and was academically successful gaining a scholarship to St. Johns College in Oxford (Vol 18 pg 105). To get away from his father and to make his own identity Graves traveled to the nearest place he could find for an officer training to sign up to join the army in World War I (Lindop pg 42). Soon after signing up in 1915 he become a captain in Royal Welsh Fusiliers and traveled to France (Lindop pg 45). As a very devoted solider, Graves fought in both The Battle of Loos and the Battle of the Somme (Vol 20 pg 345). Graves was wounded and declared dead by mistake, which was shortly known after his obituary was published that he had a long period of convalescence (Vol 18 pg 106). Graves published three
