Robert E Lee Research Paper

Robert E. Lee was born January 19, 1807 in Stratford, Virginia. He passed away October 19, 1870 in Lexington, Virginia. His parents were Anne Hill Carter Lee and Henry Lee the 3rd. Lee also had a sister named Sydney. He was married to Mary Anna Custis Lee and they had 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls. When Lee was 18 years old he went to West Point Military Academy where he excelled in all subjects. After graduating from West Point he met and married Mary Anna Custis and had 6 children. Although Lee now had a family, he pursued his military obligations.

Lee was now apart of the Engineer Corps as a second lieutenant. Over time Lee would climb the ranks and become a captain. When the United States went to war with Mexico in 1846, Lee was on staff with Major General Winfield Scott as an engineer. Using his engineer skills, he helped find ways around Mexican strong points so they could pass by or take over them. With Lee’s help, The United States captured Mexico City. …show more content…
Lee’s father-in-law died a year later. In order to help his family he returned to the plantation to help manage it. A few years later, Lee became superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He oversaw changes in curriculum and he also added a fifth year of schooling at the Academy. Later, he was stationed at a cavalry outpost in Texas for 6 years until the War Department ordered him to take care of John Brown, a radical abolitionist, and his men who were trying to seize the arsenal at Harper’s Ferry,
