People can sometimes feel welcome with open arms in a crowd full of perfect strangers. being around strangers can bring warmth to the room and comfort to a worried mind while not truly knowing anyone. Another person in the room may feel the complete opposite because they are unable to connect with new people easily. In a painting by Rob Gonsalves, the viewer is shown the difference between being lonely and being alone. This beautiful experience of the painting begins by pulling your eyes toward the blue sky in the top left corner. The clouds in the sky fade downward into a thick forest with a small pond in the in the bottom right. It brings your eyes to the bottom right corner as you see a woman floating leisurely in the water. But this image slowly fades to her floating among the stars in the …show more content…
The left half of the painting is full of very calming shades of blue sky and brightly colored forest. The reflection of the water giving off a feeling of movement from the bottom left to the bottom right of the painting. This movement is a signal of the transition in both color and tone of the painting. The bright forest and sky fade to black with only small dots of light poking through. All color is lost as the woman stares down at the earth from space. This color and setting change is meant to show the message of the painting in a drastic way. The brightly colored forest has no other people in it and yet being alone is not inherently a bad thing. Spending time in a beautiful setting can be an amazing experience even when no one is around. On the other hand, being lonely is not an experience anyone wishes for. It is as if people are worlds away from you and nothing could bring you closer to them. Even those who have many people around them can be lonely without being alone. It is simply a question of how attached you are to those around you that makes the

Stand there, right in front of the painting; what do you see? Look closely, very closely and see the paint on the canvas flow through each brush stroke, see the colors expand and blur, and see how the lights play off the soft, vibrant colors. Watch the swirls expand out into an infinite space in time . The paint flies beyond the canvas and the shadows and reflections blur into one. The pinks, blues, reds, yellows, oranges, purples, and browns blend together to create a symphony of colors.…

Putting Wyeth’s painting next to Mondrian’s really helped me distinguish what he does to get the viewer to look at the left side of the painting to the right side and then back again. Like the large red block in Mondrian’s painting, our eye is instantly drawn to Christina lying in the field of dry grass. Wyeth then gets our eye to go to the right side of the painting by including a house in the top right hand corner just like Mondrian places a blue square in the top right hand corner of his painting. By adding the house to the painting, our eye moves from the main object, the woman, to another object, the house, because as viewers we went to ensure we see the full image.…

In my Thursday seminar 2 class we were to focus on an artwork emphasizing certain elements of art such as shape, mass, and light. I took a like in a certain landscape piece entitled “On the Beach” by Donna Gilbertson made in Australia. This is an 18” x 14” landscape painting, but this certain work is not dated. It is said to be “painted in a loose impressionistic style.” Seeing that “On the Beach” shows children on a beach likely enjoying themselves.…

I can tell it’s where the artist wants us to look at because that is the lightest point of the painting and where everything takes you. What I mean by saying where it takes you to is where our eyes get drawn to and lines lead. The pink clouds set the tone and temperature. The sun is preparing to set down. It’s difficult to tell because the tine of the sky and sea are slightly off key.…

To look at art, you need time. Looking at art is just as difficult as making it; to fully know what an art piece can give you, you have to take the time to let it talk to you. As if you tell someone a story and tell them to tell someone else, but that someone else walks away mid-story. You are that someone else, the artist is giving a story to a canvas, and if you don’t give the canvas the same amount of time that the artist gave it, you won’t hear the whole story. Paintings that are abstractions are the most important applicant to this rule.…

Another principle of art that this piece demonstrates is movement. One method that the artist uses to achieve this is through the artistic element of line. Specifically, the fast brush strokes that begin thicker near the top and evolve into thinner, wispier lines catch the eye’s attention and send it downward. In addition, the drips of paint that run down sections of the piece have this same effect and suggest a fluid…

The use of secondary hues makes the painting more bleak, dull, or somber. The artist adds emphasis to the focal point which is the Castle surrounded by the changing clouds. Your attention is drawn there because the painter used contrasting colors. Ruisdael used directional force by painting light colors on top and dark colors on the bottom of the painting. When you are going through the travel experience in this particular painting, you are use to the local color, then your eyes have to adjust to the darker spots in the painting to see all of the details.…
