It was almost summer vacation at Roanoke High School. You could hear it through the hallways. All the chit chat, the excited squeaks, the groans for the day to be over. The sun was shining brightly onto the overwhelmed students who were filled with anticipation; longing for that sweet chime of a bell, announcing to them that they were free. Free of the anxiety, free of the drama, free of the constant work. They were almost free. They could do whatever they pleased. This staggering anticipation was not spread to everyone though. One junior was VERY sulky. Laura Hardy didn’t quite share the love of summer her fellow class mates felt. To her, summer was boring. They both started down the hallway, towards their study hall. They enjoyed study hall with each other. Darcy was a straight A student, using her time in study hall as diligently as she could. Were as Laura being a “not-s straight a student” used that time talking to friends, doodling, or just plain daydreaming. “What I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted,” Laura quickly glared at the teacher. “That’s a great Idea, I have a few hundred dollars saved up for gas money, we can use that, but what would we even do?” Darcy thought for a moment before a smirk swept upon her face.
“Well you know, I bet some little town somewhere in America might enjoy it if some musicians came to town and put on a show. I’ve heard about this great up incoming new band. I just need to remember their names… oh yeah, Darcy and Laura!”
“Darcy, were not musicians, all you can play is the saxophone and although that’s great, I wouldn’t have anything to play.” Laura responded, completely mystified on what Darcy was talking about”
“Trust me Laura, I have an idea. All we have to do is find a little town, rent out an auditorium, and create some hype about a

World’s Best Injera Waiting for school to end, five, four, three, two ,one, beeeeep, summer officially started. Temperatures reaching 80-90 degrees, people walking around with nearly nothing on, men with shorts and underwear and girls with bikinis. As I’m walking through the hallway I see mixed emotions, people who are crying, who don’t want to leave their friends then there’s people who just run out the door with excitement and don’t bother to look back to say goodbye. So shocked in everything from the first day, when people are finessing their new cloth and shoes, to finals, where people are stressing about their grades, “Do you think I can reach that A+ if I do some extra credit,” Students tend to ask, everything goes by so quickly. On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…
