Road Not Taken

In Robert Frost’s poem, The Road Not Taken is about choosing the path less traveled by. In many ways, I have too, had to take the path less traveled by. Throughout this essay I will share my insights into my own feelings and experiences that this poem gives me. To begin with, I had to decide where to attend college. All of my friends were telling me how they were so ready to get out of this town and move on with their life. They kept trying to persuade me into being their roommate because we would be four hours away from home where no parents will be watching our every move like hawks. It definitely didn’t sound like me, so that’s why I chose to take the path less traveled by attending a community college. People looked down upon me because I chose to stay at home and live with my parents the same time I was attending school while they were out partying every night having the time of their lives. But honestly, I could care less what they thought of me attending a community college because it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m saving thousands of dollars by not attending a university, not having a monthly Stevens 2 housing fee, and not having to pay for a meal plan. Once we passed the 9th grade everything and everybody changed. The quiet, innocent girls ended up becoming the first ones pregnant, the “goody good” kids were no longer that, your best friend became your worst nightmare, and everyone that you thought in a million years would never party were getting high and drunk every weekend. There were tons of peer pressure throughout high school, but I decided to stick to my standards. I didn’t want to ruin my life or reputation by going out and partying just so that I can fit in with my so called “friends”.
