One of the best poems that effectively represent poetic elements, is the poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost. This poem might be a contradiction to many readers, but the whole point of this poem is to represent an archetypal dilemma based on life archetypes. The main big picture in this poem is that the speaker/hero is in the middle of the woods and he sees two diverging roads leading to different pathways. The speaker is confused to which road to choose, somehow, he chose one pathway and tells himself that he will choose the other road next time. This refers to the leaves that were stepped by many people that had passed by through the pathway. The dirt from the shoes that people wore had stained the leaves which showed slow decomposition of the leaves (made the leaves turner darker). The author focuses on colours, such as yellow and black that were directly mentioned from the poem, in the woods, the speaker was travelling from was described as the colour yellow. These two relations in colours in the poem makes this as interesting juxtaposition which is basically when two things are closely placed together. Also, in the starting of the poem, the author uses bright, sunny yellow to describe the settings of the poem as a beautiful fall/autumn day. Then, the author mentions the colour black, which is dark and harsh against the woods which was described as yellow. Thus, the colours also affect the mood/feelings, the author wanted to show the feelings through colours and imagery. The intense variation of the colours leaves the mood as bittersweet, and nostalgic. In conclusion, the author has a very unique talent in his writing.
