1.0. INTRODUCTION
This is the first chapter of the study and the researcher was focus on the following sections: background of the study, problem statement, research purpose, research objective, research question, scope of the study, significant of the study and the study of operational definitions.

Construction industry sector is every nation’s economic development backbone but they are a mix of very complex processes that seldom go according to the planned schedule. Project implementation is the stage where all the planned activities are put in to action, the project is produced and the performance capabilities are verified. The study will help other researchers and schoolers who want to research on factors affecting performance of road construction projects.
1.7. SCOPE OF RESEARCH
This study will be conducted in two district of the capital city in Mogadishu, Somalia, namely, Hodan district and Howlwadag district. These two district was selected because of the road construction projects were implemented and construction companies are located in these districts
The variables to be examined in this study include Project Performance determinants which will be broken into project manager’s competency, project fund and project equipment/resources and other variable (DV) is project performance; the study will focus on only to identify determinants of road construction project performance. 3.1 RESEARCH DESIGN
This study will be used survey research approach. Surveys are data collection method used when describing, comparing or explaining individuals, societal knowledge, feelings, values, preferences, and behavior (Fink, 2009).
The study will be conducted through a descriptive study; descriptive research purpose is to describe an accurate profile of persons, events or situations (Robson, 2002). However, this study will be used quantitative approach; quantitative is any data collection approach (such as a questionnaire) or data analysis procedure that uses numerical data (Saunders et al, 2009)
3.2 TARGET POPULATION
The target population of this study is construction companies who implemented road construction projects in Mogadishu, however, the research will select a number of companies such as xxxxx, xxxx, xxxxx. The researcher selected those construction companies because they are the main construction companies that implemented road construction projects in Mogadishu. Since total employee of those companies are unknown, the researcher took 120 as a target population for this
