The profile of the river Frome and its tributaries has been artificially modified to assist the land users needs. Although currently physical modification of the river are reduced or absent, the influence of previous modifications is still present. Along the floodplain the flow is affected by a complex system of drainage ditches and artificial channels. Some of those are not any more in use, in fact they are presented as grooves covered by vegetation. In that case is recommended to retain the vegetation in place where possible. Other channels need more management to reduce the possibility of contribution of sediment in the main channel (Natural England, 2010).
