Decent Essays
Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria (SV 325, The Return of Ulysses to his Homeland) is an opera by Claudio Monteverdi using a libretto by Giacomo Badoaro. The opera, first performed at the Teatro Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice during the 1639–40 carnival, is based on the second half of Homer's Odyssey. It tells how Ulisse (Odysseus) returns from the Trojan Wars and recovers his kingdom. The loyal and virtuous characters are ultimately rewarded, while treachery and deception are overcome. After early performances in Venice and Bologna, the opera remained unperformed until the 20th century.

Cancerous cells take advantage of existing cell structures such as microtubules, to divide and multiply. Microtubules aid the cells in dividing and creating a similar cell. Potent anti-microtubule agents work by blocking the microtubules from performing their usual functions. When this happens, the cells are incapable of dividing and creating similar cells, and ultimately die. These anti-microtubule agents can’t differentiate between normal cells and the cancerous cells, and act on normal cells as well.…

It does not take long for the reader to see that the Ithaca Ulysses left, was not the same place when he returned. Ulysses expected an uproar and parades to be thrown over his return, but yet he is met with savages who do not remember his image or name. Ulysses clearly expresses his disappointment in his people saying "I mete and dole Unequal laws to a savage race, That hoard, and sleep, and feed, and know not me"(Lines 3-5). The old king sees his shinning past corrupted with the rust of time and faded memories. Furthermore, this angers Ulysses to the point that he begins to cull everything about his kingdom saying "It little profits an idle king, by this still hearth, among these barren crags"(Lines 1-2).…
