Wedding Transition: Rites Of Passage In American Culture

Humans all over have been noticing the passage of time, forming ceremonies into admirable passages in our mental, emotional, and spiritual lives. Events that represent a major milestone in our early lives can be considered Rites of Passage. Rites of passage are ceremonial events marking the transition from one stage of life to the next. Wedding transition and customs alternate between societies today. Three of those societies being the Chinese, the French, and Americans.
For the Chinese, wedding ceremonies are a big deal. Apparently China has taken the websites, match.com or eharmony.com to the next level. Where the parents will write a synopsis of their child and try to find a match with other parents (Lopez). For the Chinese the engagement process is different. The family must approve the groom of the bride. If the groom is approved of, the family of the groom will start giving gifts to the bride’s family. They can also take place in chapels scattered in the United States. Weddings in America may take place on a beach, or in a Garden. American’s also have what is called the flower girls and the ring bearer. The flower girls spread petals down the aisle for the bride to walk on. These flower pedals symbolize fertility and hope.
