Ritenour Perseverance

Decent Essays
The teacher at Ritenour that has influenced me the most is Mrs. Haar-Chapman or for short Mrs. HC. She influenced me the most, in my walk towards college. Before I began a strive for college, I wasn't sure I was cut out for the “college life”. She pushed me and my class as a whole to find a college and research about it, at first I thought it was a bit ridiculous, I won't deny it. She made us dive into researching about our future. Her perseverance made me realize , she was really trying to make us RHS students make a positive effort of growth, for our futures. Making us really think about what we wanted to do outside of “ the fancy fences” of Ritenour. I wouldn't have made so much initiative to go to college without her perseverance.

If you travelled today to Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and asked Gochenour what is the most important thing she learned from Marian she would simply say, “As an individual I have more resiliency because of Marian.” Gochenour knows that if she would not have woken up an hour early every day of high school, she would not be the person she is today. She believes that because she made the sacrifice to go to Marian, she was able to easily push herself to be persistent in becoming a better student and also a better person. If Gochenour took the easy route and stayed in her small town of 1,500 people for school, she believes she would not be able to be the successful student athlete she is at today at Duke University without Marian’s guidance.…

Going from a rocket scientist to a high school math and engineering teacher might seem like a downgrade for most, but for Tammy Kuipers, it was one of the most fulfilling choices she has ever made. Sure the pay isn’t great and you inevitably run into a few problematic kids, but like most teachers, she gets a sort of supernatural satisfaction from helping awkward children along in their development. I had the pleasure of taking calculus and statistics from her during my high school career, and her bubbly personality and dedication to her work left a great impression on me. At 5’5” Mrs. Kuipers may not look like much of a threat.…

One of the women in these chapters who inspired me was Pauli Murray. Murray was an extraordinary student. One person has always had the power to make a difference in another’s life. Whether that be a family member teaching a little one kindness, or even on a bigger scale Martin Luther King Jr. leading a revolution to the acceptance of people with different colored skin. Even bad people can make a change for the good, like a school shooter who makes schools realize they need a plan in place for an attack on their students. One person can change the way others think entirely and can impact their lives in a major way. Lori Ann Heyden, my grandmother, had made a huge impact in my life.…

I know a few people that are so motivated to attend college that they already know for sure what they are going to major in before they were even freshmen in high school. For me, I was not falling into that category. College was something I did not consider throughout my time in high school.…
