Manual handling is any activity that requires anyone to lift or move a load. Anyone involved in the moving a load are at risk from injury. Back problems and other health issues can be linked to any work involving handling of loads. There are risks in handling even light loads being carried out in untidy work area. There are some basic guidelines to help that everyone should do before carrying out a manual handling operation:
Make sure the route is clear of obstructions
Make sure there is somewhere for the load to be placed wherever its being moved to.
Bend your knees and try and keep the back straight.
Grab the load firmly close to the body when you can.
Use your legs to lift the load in a smooth motion to prevent any unnecessary
