Low Birth Weight Research Paper

When conducting various tests on low birth weights I found low birth weight to be defined as a baby born weighing less than 5.5 pounds. After running various queries and tests on the data of file of women with low birth weights, I have found that many of the women of other ethnicity suffer from having babies with low birth weights. Although Caucasian women are not too far behind in having babies with low birth weight. Astonishing that, Black women were at a significantly lower percentage of women who resulted in low birth weight babies. Furthermore, black women are generally associated with having low-birth weight babies due to several medical risk factors as well as everyday risk factors. They help to promote proper nutrition, do and donts of pregnancy, harmful risk factors, healthy lifestyles, and make certain you get a genuine checkup of your medical history. So, for many women to miss out on these important visits shows that they did not equip and prepare themselves for the proper care and getting the necessary information about prenatal vitamins, calorie intake and risks associated with certain actions if they missed a lot of important appointments in the first trimester. Overall most of the women had healthy babies that were of a normal healthy weight and they had limited risk factors with the exception of smoking which many women that were Caucasian did while pregnant. Furthermore, most of the women maintained exceptional birth weight babies and were of a decent pre-pregnancy weight prior to becoming pregnant. Moreover, when looking at the risk factors in the study that were associated with low birth weight babies many of the women were not affected by the adverse effects of hypertension, preterm labor, smoking while pregnant, lack of dr. visits during 1st trimester, and uterine irritability. Therefore, the sample of women within this study did occupy some of the risk factors but many of the risk factors were tied to certain races. In spite of a lot of the risk factors such as hypertension in which many feel would be targeted to African American women or women of other ethnicity, I found it surprising that most of the women of Caucasian ancestry suffered from hypertension, but I also factored in that there were more Caucasian women involved in the study as to why the numbers could of been higher. All in all the Caucasian women ranked high in many risk factor
