Falling Out Of Time Analysis

It was once said by an English novelist, Jane Austen: “A fondness for reading, properly directed, must be an education in itself”. Some might think this is true, and others might think education is the road to life. Today’s student do not learn to appreciate the beauty of language, and instead find learning about others’ lives and applying them to their own rather more compelling. Reading fiction allows readers to compare their experiences with the experiences of characters to make a point. Fiction novels “The Casual Vacancy”, “Gone Girl”and “Falling out of time”have recently been published which today’s students are finding easy to relate to. On his fifth wedding anniversary he reports his wife, Amy, has gone missing. He blames the loss of his job and for the decline of his marriage to his wife with a substantial trust fund. Questions of his motives and character begin to arise after his wife disappears. As the search for her plays out over the days, guilty suspicions are fueled towards Nick by the media outside his house. Is this perfect man in the eyes of many, truly capable of murdering his wife is the question left to be answered by the readers. In a review by Joshua Rothman mentions “It’s not that the book is plausible, exactly, but that it’s full of texture and detail, both forensic and psychological”. “As in many postmodern narratives, the heroes and villain in Fincher’s “Gone Girl” aren’t people but stories”. “Gone Girl” is fascinating because it gets at what is unsettling about coupledom: our suspicion that, in some fundamental sense, it necessarily entails victimization”. Just as readers thinks they have everything in the novel figured out, there are surprises that lead them to somewhere. There is plenty of knowledge readers will gain from this novel, which is why this would also be a great book to read next
