Rise Of Industrialism

The rise of industrialism and corporations in the United States had plenty of effects on society then and now. During the time more and more people fell into poverty and the difference between the poor and the wealthy grew, not only that but the danger of jobs in factories caused for a large death toll and a lot of injury and disease. But because of the boom in industry and corporations, we now have work unions and a knowledge of what can happen when you start deskilling the workforce. The lower paying wages and increase in the industrial work force caused the decline of wealth among the working class. As this happened there was more need for other members of the family to go to work. Women worked in factories with children who did jobs just as dangerous and getting paid almost nothing. Not only that but the company owners and shareholders gained wealth like no other, not caring about the health of their employees. Not only did people die in the factory but children died at home because of malnutrition and other diseases parents and siblings bring home. …show more content…
Later they started creating work unions that were more successful in getting changes such as collective bargaining. The unions were influential back then, helping people out of the horrors of poverty. Most city work forces such as the Fire Department have work unions allowing for their ability to bargain for an increase in benefits, paid vacation and maternity leave, and working conditions. Unions have been around for over 100 years and are still common in trade related jobs today. The rise in industry and corporations had a mixed effect.
