Rise by Trip Lee (William Barefield) is a first person, nonfiction book about how we as young adults and teens need to rise from slumber and go out in the world to do what we are called to do in our christian walk. In part one “Getting up” Lee talked about how people have the 7 A.M logic-Waking up early and shutting of your alarm to sleep in an extra 5 minutes. As humans we like to sleep in a few extra minutes and there is nothing wrong with that...but, especially in today’s world, that’s all we are known to do. In my high school career, I’ve sung this song twice, one time my freshman year and again the spring of this year, my junior year. Rosephanye Powell’s song was inspired by a poem called “Still I Rise” by poet Maya Angelou. Written in 2005, the song was meant to be a women’s anthem, it was to show that even after a past full of; tears, struggle, and heartache, a woman can grow stronger and rise above the challenges, hence the name “Still I Rise”.…

He employs emotional appeals as well as strategic literary devices to emphasize the differing perspectives that exist between father and son. Through shifting points of view, purposeful structure, and meaningful diction, Lee adds depth and emotion to the love shared by the two characters and illuminates a universal theme of present innocence and changing relationships over time.…

The poem appears like an ocean shore; the lines of the poem, emulating the back and forth motion of waves, are long, then shorten, lengthen, then shorten again, this in keeping with the mythical kingdom theme. The predominant rhythm that the poem uses is the anapest, a type of meter consisting of three syllables, with one stressed syllable occurring after two unstressed syllables (Poe's Annabel Lee). For example in the first line, the first syllable of “many” and the word “year” receive stress after two unaccented syllables, as shown here: Itwasma / nyandma / nyayear / a / go (Shmoop Editorial Team). The anapest rhythm adds excitement and a climactic aspect as it builds in momentum just as the overall structure of the poem does; they meet, they fall in love, she dies, he grieves, he accepts.…
