Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, often called Rio, is a culture filled city with many enjoyable places and the famous statue of Cristo Redentor. As stated in “Brazil,” Masquerade balls started in Rio around 1846 introduced by a french actor that lived in the city (23-26). Rio is known for their excellent parties and parades. They even get to take the day off on the day of the big carnival. The parties are not the only thing that tourist find appealing. The most famous landmark called the Christ Redeemer is often found cowering over Rio. Rio also has many fresh markets and colorful birds gliding above. Many People walk downtown to eat the variety of foods Rio has to offer along with a colorful carnival scheduled once a year. The carnivals are everlasting and filled with dazzling floats. The bright, colorful macaws are favored and incorporated in the floats along with dancers wear vibrant costumes. “Brazil is a place known for its diversity, its annual Carnival celebrations, it’s soccer players and fans." ("Traditional Brazilian Food: Dipping into a Melting Pot." 1 ). Soccer is the most popular sport in Brazil and is watched by almost everyone. While watching the game, families in Rio tend to cook BBQ, a favored food in Brazil. If people want a snack they can find food trucks on the sidewalks selling things like tacos, hot dogs, churros, or BBQ. Restaurants consist of spicy dishes, usually fish, and is served with rice or beans. Large markets can be found all over Rio with fresh fish brought in from the ocean. The Santa Teresa neighborhood is essentially most of the population and people who seek art are drawn toward them. “Perched on a hill overlooking the city’s harbor, the Santa Teresa neighborhood invites visitors to step back in time and experience the faded elegance of Rio’s 19th-century plantation mansions and cobblestone streets,” ("10 Top Tourist Attractions in Rio De Janeiro." 1). Boutiques and little clubs have taken over and made the neighborhood, one of the most popular tourist attractions.
