Rigorous Weight-Training Program

Improved Essays
After tearing the ACLs in both of my knees while playing football, I decided to focus my attention on rehabilitation and began a rigorous weight-training program to improve my knee strength. The weight room is a great environment to not only build strength, but it serves as a sanctuary helping me keep my mind off of football. While working out and rehabilitating my knees, I enjoy listening to music for motivation. I found that other students also found solace in the weight room for training and rehabilitation. It was then that I decided to organize a club, a weightlifting club, to help others work through injuries and build strength by supporting one another.

For the past three years I have served as co-president of the weightlifting club.

At first, I was unsure as to how I would contribute at the workouts with my arm in a sling. But with the help of my surgeon and physical therapist, I developed a training program that targets arm injury prevention in baseball players, and I now demonstrate this program directly to my teammates once to twice a week at the workouts. My injury continues to frustrate me, but I channel this frustration into ensuring that the underclassmen won’t suffer the same type of injury that I did. This type of leadership has brought to me a great sense of fulfillment, but I’ve also taken away a unique lesson. Though the age difference isn’t drastic, the freshmen have much more cheerful, untroubled thoughts than my twelfth grade peers.…
