Both Guatemalan auhtor and human rights activist. Rigoberta Menchú was born on January 9, 1959 to a poor Mayan relative family. She experienced childhood with the Quiche branch of the Mayan culture. Growing up, she helped her family with work and errands in the northern good manuciplaities of Guatemala. Both grown-ups and kids would pick cofee beans day by day on the estates. Their adolescence and youth were set apart by the torment of racial separation and brutal suppression.
