What is the Right to Work law? According to the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, the Right to Work law states that it guarantees that no person can be compelled, as a condition of employment, to join or not to join, nor to pay dues to a labor union. The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation is neither anti-union or pro-union. The focus is on individual freedom. The foundation affirms the right of all Americans to be free of compulsory unionism abuses. Since Arkansas adopted the Right to work law on November 7, 1944, 25 other states have also adopted the law with west Virginia being the 26 state to adopt it on February 12, 2016.
