The function of this specific personality disorder is an individual who expresses a boastful and pretentious attitude that is met with an exposed shame and vulnerability when embarrassed (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Most of the insecurity and humiliated types of feelings are usually kept secret by the individual and can cause rage and contempt for those who made the individual feel that way (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). Learning how to relate to others more positively, understanding what the cause is for his own distrust in others and understand his obsession with creating puzzles and riddles to ensnare people would be part of a long psychotherapy (Mayo Clinic, 2016). Psychotherapy involves a lot of talking and honesty within the individual and because personality traits are difficult to change, it is possible that therapy may take years (Mayo Clinic, 2016). One of The Riddler’s most difficult things for him to recognize is strong criticism and feeling embarrassed (Mayo Clinic 2016; The Riddler, 2016). Talk-therapy would help him to understand where these self-esteem issues have rooted from and to regulate those feelings. The benefits of psychotherapy for The Riddler would be exponential and to uncover and explore some repressed and undiscovered reasons would explain many of his behaviors (Mayo Clinic,
