Imagine being someone who doesn't know anyone, where anything is, and how to do most things. “Schooled” is about someone named Cap who was raised in a hippy commune and ends up moving to the city where he barely knows anything. In the story, Cap meets many people that change throughout the story, and they get “Schooled.” Being schooled is being taught something. “Schooled” is an appropriate title for this book.…
when she is told that Funtown is closed to colored children, and see the depressing clouds of inferiority begin to form in her little mental sky, and see her distort her little personality by unconsciously developing a bitterness toward white people(265) King is simply putting segregation in the eyes of a child and showing the audience how it’s tearing the younger generation apart by teaching them how to hate those who are different from them. Through this scene the audience feels the complication and shame the father feels for his innocent daughter suffering consequences she has no right to receiving for just being herself. King goes into more depth of the struggle of being black by writing “When you take a cross country drive and find it…

Go into paragraph and talk about how before white males were in power blah blah and how Lincoln wanted to abolish south leaders altogether and how at first American society was not really a democracy at all and how this info in the whole paragraph is America moving one step closer to democracy. In McPherson’s book, he refers to the economic environment of the South as being a slave reliant one in which it greatly depended on its predominantly agriculture and plantation systems, while the North focused more on equality and the rights of the people. African Americans began demonstrating political resistance and acting out against their white slave owners during the Civil War. When Lincoln came into office, the Freedmen’s Bureau surfaced which…

“Two Kinds” is a story based on a mother and daughter, and how they had their own opinions on how the daughter should be. The mother wanted the best for her daughter, but she also wanted her daughter become something she wasn’t, a child prodigy. The daughter tried to please her mother but in the end she just wanted to be herself, to stick to her own mindset, not her mother's. She tried everything in beginning that her mother wanted her to do, but later grew out of trying to please her mom because she believed it to be unrealistic. She knew she just wasn’t the child that could become a prodigy, at least she didn’t believe that she could be.…

What holds the key to a stand-out mystery? Does one specific component exist to capture the mood of a mystery, or are there several factors aligned together that make a mystery mysterious? A mystery exists to continually captivate a reader while entertaining his or her mind with thoughts regarding the multiple paths the story can take. Consistently, they withhold parts of the story like a puzzle, and the final pieces that reveal the image created are not revealed until the very end. Along the way, any mediocre mystery holds several plot twists, where a reader’s mind is tricked into creating certain conclusions, only to have the whole plot of the story twisted into something entirely new.…

Callie Boozer 9/27/14 Professor Ceisel Communication I and Thou Response Paper Martin Buber’s I and Thou contains three sections each consisting of observations and ideas of various lengths. When read individually these observations are not pieces of a story that all chronologically go together, but rather smaller parts of a larger argument that Buber is making. In the first part of the book Buber establishes the foundation for his larger argument, which is that man has two ways of interacting with the world- the way of “I-It” and the way of “I-You.” In the second part he discusses the ways in which man exists in society as well as how our society works as a whole.…
There are many MESSAGES that an individual can analyze from “A Stroke of Insight”. For example, Jill speaks about how her spirit could “soar free” during her stroke and that she found nirvana. The fact that Jill nearly died and she could find nirvana or peace within herself, means that anyone is fully capable of finding peace within themselves. In addition, if Jill can find something positive in something as frightening as a stroke, we can find the positive in any situation. The RECEIVER of the message was the audience that watches her speak.…
