Rickey Henderson was one of the most notable Illinois-born baseball players that there will ever be. Rickey was born on Christmas, Dec. 25, 1958, but he spent most of his childhood in Oakland, California playing baseball and football. After battling for 4 long years in the minors, Rickey Henderson would get his shot in the Majors in 1979. (“Rickey Henderson, American Baseball Player”). Henderson was a wonderful running back in his 4 years of high school, ultimately he turned down offers from several colleges to play baseball for the Oakland Athletics in 1976. One thing that people say they like about Rickey is the way he judges pitches and intimidates pitchers (“Rickey Henderson American Baseball Player”). Which was broken only two years later by Barry Bonds. Rickey played for a long time 25 years in fact he played for 9 teams including the: New York Mets, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants, Miami Marlins, and the Cincinnati Reds. Henderson won two world series, one with the Oakland Athletics, and the other with the Toronto Blue Jays.
