Follow through summative evaluation, we can provide an assessment that follows a specific lesson to evaluate the children will be doing to meet the objectives. Thus, formative evaluation is an ongoing assessment that ensure the planned activities and methods accomplish what the teacher intended. As stated in the InTASC Model Core Teacher Standards, Standard 6 addresses assessments. The standard states: “The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and learner’s decision making.” To me, we are constantly challenged in using multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth. By first identifying our student’s learning objectives and content standards we are able to align each assessment to those objectives. Therefore, by using our knowledge of Standard 6, the teacher will integrate the instructional practice to provide immediate feedback to reinforce our student’s learning and to modify instruction were…
In order to use assessments to improve instruction, one must go through intensive, strategic planning to determine what will be assessed, why it is being assessed, and how it will be assessed. By beginning this process, it immediately creates a familiarity with standards that otherwise would not be as concrete. The ability to pick apart standards to determine outcomes assists in the creation of specific evidence to show that a student has reached mastery of the learning goal. When a teacher understands the content that is being taught, the instruction within the classroom ultimately improves as more explicit to the learning goal at hand. Creating assessments to utilize within a classroom or grade level gives the educator themself a base…

1.1 Assessment – Purpose and value Assessments take on many forms, but all have one distinctive purpose, to empower a teacher with a resource that gathers information about students that will later be used for evaluating and analysing students’ knowledge and understanding, guiding teachers on what to report about a student’s achievement to the relevant stakeholders. Krause describes assessment as “The gathering and analysing of information about a student’s achievement”. (date). Assessing and reporting the achievement of a student is fundamental in the process of creating lifelong learners.…
I Have Learned This is my second year at Stephens College, but I just finished my first semester as an education major, and it was amazing! I started out my college career as a psychology major, but I plan to graduate with an education degree, and fulfill my dream of teaching children. Throughout this semester I have learned many different things about teaching that will stick with me my entire career. I learned about the teaching and learning process through the course work I was given, the time I spent in the classroom teaching lessons, as well as the times that I sat back and just observed the preschool and elementary classrooms.…
