It was 1814, Colonel Jackson and his men set foot down the Mississippi River in hopes of catching the British. The only thing Jackson's men had were their muskets and what food they could carry, which consisted of mostly pork and beans. After days of marching Jackson's men finally caught the British in the town of New Orleans. The plan was to hide behind surrounding cotton bales and brush, and to not shoot until they could see the whites of the Red Coats eyes. They could hear the beat of the drum in the distance, along with the stomping of their feet.…

Dear J. Madison, I have the utmost respect for you, but something has been puzzling me lately, I simply cannot comprehend why you oppose the Connecticut Compromise so deeply. I despise that we are in an argument about the ways our government should work. The Constitution would not have been as grand as it is if not for you, however your Virginia Plan does not represent smaller states, such as my home in Connecticut, New Jersey, and many other states are in agreement. My idea is a compromise, which involves each state, it includes bicameral legislature, with one part proportional representation and the other half involving each state having one representative. I know you are a busy man, but I hope that you will consider voting for the good of…

I wish to recommend Erica Johnson as a nominee for this year Mary Louise Human Rights Award, as she is a passionate leader, change agent and role model in our community. I have known Erica since I met her during a DACA legal clinic in 2013. Before meeting Erica, I had never thought of myself as an advocate, let alone as a leader in my community. Erica saw something in me that no one else had. She introduced me to the fight for human and civil rights of the undocumented community, thought me everything she knew and supported me along the way.…

To My Dearest Nika-san, It’s March 27, 1965, and as I walk through the muddy fields of Hayneville, Alabama, I stop to look at the sky and wonder what we blacks have been through. The day before we left for the march with Dr. King (Martin Luther King Jr.), I have done a lot of preparations and packed a very small amount of items needed before I left for the march. (I have packed a blanket and purse filled with my special needs) Ma and Pa were worried about my health but I told I’d be just fine. As I walk more into the muddy fields, my legs get very heavy and tired making me want to stop and rest.…
