Richardson/Batista Family Case Study

1.The Division is currently involved with the Richardson/Batista family due to concerns with Mr. Pugh residing in the family's home. The concern is there may be a no contact order in place due to the physical altercation between Ruddy and Mr. Pugh that occurred in August 2016. The worker has not been able to verify if the no contact order is still in place or has been lifted. The worker has contacted Family Court, the Criminal Division, the Division Court Liaison as well as the municipal court regarding this matter. None of the entities could confirm whether there was a no contact order in place.

Another issue presented with the Richardson/Batista family, is the maternal aunt Thelma Scott informed the Division that her nephew Juan Carlos Rentas,

Ruddy and Emerson has missed a significant amount of school. The worker has requested reports and school progress notes on both Ruddy and Emerson in early November. At this time the worker has not received an update will visit Harp Academy and School 8 to obtain update information on Ruddy and Emerson. The worker asked Ruddy and Emerson why are they missing so much school. Both boys replied that they are not woken up on time. The worker asked Ms. Richardson who ensures that Ruddy and Emerson goes to school. Ms. Richardson expressed that she wakes up Ruddy and Emerson for school, but did not realized that they go back to sleep once she goes back into her room. It is imperative that Ms. Richardson take a more active role in ensuring that Ruddy and Emerson attends school regularly. Ms. Richardson needs to ensure that her directives to her children are being completed.

Assessing Ms. Richardson through the Johari Window's model, it appears that Ms. Richardson is blind to the idea that she has a drinking problem. Everyone around can see how her drinking impacts all aspects of her life. Ms. Richardson has been arrested, she has gotten into physical altercation due to her drinking and has a strained relationship with her oldest son. Ms. Richardson strongly disagrees with the notions that she has a drinking problem.
