Frank Fowler was twenty-one years old, eight months, and four days old when he passed away. He was the youngest son of Matt and Ruth Fowler. Frank was shot and killed by Richard Strout because of what seemed to be jealousy. A month after the funeral, Matt and Ruth were not able to overcome the thought of Richard Strout being free from his actions. With Strout always on Matt's mind, he often times, spent time with Willis Trottier’s who was a large restaurant owner to get his mind off of things. I wouldn't have thought that the late night visits Matt and Willis were having would have kept me so drawn to the story like it did. I found these visits to be the rising action of the story. It had me hooked. I wasn't ever sure what Matt was going to do about the certain conflict he was faced with. The conflict that I saw was between Matt Fowler and Richard Strout. Matt Fowler was defending his son and his families heartbreak, from the loss of his youngest son Frank Fowler. Frank Fowler was beginning a relationship with a woman named Mary Ann, who was in the process of divorce with Richard Strout. Richard Strout was jealous of the …show more content…
Matt and Willis had everything perfectly planned out. With Matt holding the gun to Strout’s body, for what the book said was two hours, left me never knowing what Matt was planning to do, or if he would end up doing what I thought he was going to do. As soon as Strout was walking in front of them, still at gunpoint, down the dusty road. I knew something was about to happen. Once Strout passed the front of his car, dropped his suitcase, ducked, and tried to get away in a sprint, Matt shot him. Even after Matt shot him, I thought Matt was going to have good in his heart and let him live with that as his pain, I was wrong, soon after he walked up and shot him in the back of the
